Sweetgrass Basket Tray

Sweetgrass basket made using methods of traditional Gullah weavers. Sweetgrass baskets have been made in the South Carolina Lowcountry for more than 300 years using local marsh grasses. Originally used as willowing fans to separate the rice seed from its chaff, sweetgrass baskets are regarded among the nations most prized cultural souvenirs and have long been regarded as heirloom treasures of the Gullah Geechie culture.

Handmade by local artist Paulette Geathers using local materials.
